SACATAPON : Should be SACACORCHO which is a CORKSCREW in Spanish. SACAR is the Spanish TO BRING OUT CORCHO is CORD and TAPON is the CAP or TOP of a bottle.

SAIBO : Bad English for SI DE-BOARD which is APARADOR in Spanish. In Latin America it is called UN SEIBO.

SALAITOS : name given to ALTRAMUZES also wrongly called ALTAMUZES these are called LUPINS in Enlgish.
They are a kind of Pulse which is sold after having been soaked and made soft in brine. Hence the name SALAITOS which means SALTY.

SALTIPINA : Bad English for SALTED PEANUTS in Spanish they are called CACAHUETES.

SAM BO : Should be PATIZAMBO which is the Spanish for being KNOCK-KNEED, it is also the wrong word since SAMBO is used locally for someone who is BANDY-LEGGED. The correct word is therefore ESTEVADO.

SAMPULLIDO : Should be SARPULLIDO which is Spanish for A RASH.

SANGUI : Should be SANDWICH the Spanish is BOCADILLO or EMPAREDADO.

SANISANIWASHA : Popular non-sensical nursery rhyme.

SANTIFICAO : Bad Spanish for CERTIFIC ADO the English is CERTIFICATE.

SARGEN or SARGENA : Local Jewish form of saying HIM or HER.

SEMOS : Bad Spanish for SOMOS which is WE ARE.

SEPLI : From the English SAY PLEASE. Commonly used when playing Marbles.

SEPLI :Possible derivation from the French SAUVE QUI PEU which is EVERY MAN FOR HIMSELF. In this case the meaning is just that: "HACER SEPLI" i.e., "TO GET LOST".

SERA : Should be LA ACERA which is Spanish for AVEMENT. See also MARCHAPIE.

SERAPAI : From the Trade name SERAPITE which is a plaster for the smoothing of walls.

SERULOY : From the English CELLULOID the Spanish is CELULOIDE. Dolls were at one time made of CELLULOID hence "LAS MUNECAS DE CERULOY".

SHEVE or CHEVE : From the English SHERBET the Spanish is POLVOS AZUCARADOS.

SLOPIS : Nickname given to the Spaniards from the English SLOPPY. This has derived from the sloppy drill always seen at the Frontier by the Spanish Guards. There was always a strong contrast between the British and Spanish Guards' discipline which stuck out considerably since both Posts were only a few yards from each other. SUPATAN : From the English SUPERHAND. This word comes from the game of CANONERAS. A SUPATAN was when someone threw a bigger than usual heap of CANONERAS. See CANONERAS.

SUTRA or SUDRA : From the English SWEAT RAG.

SWISH : From the English LIGHT SWITCH the Spanish is INTERUPTOR.
