In Nepal’s low land
area of Maguali, villagers are very poor and marginalised.
Illness can be mortal as a simple cut can soon turn
septic in the sub tropical climate, diarrhea is a
huge killer amongst the weak including infants and
the elderly. Mortality rates are also very high as
there are 82 deaths per 100 children under 5, and
540 maternal deaths per 100,000 live births.
Once a small boy in a small village,
Hari Bhandary saw all the illnesses and problems around
him without being able to understand why, nor what
could be done about them.
One day a couple walking through
the forest near Maguali got lost but were lucky to
find Hari, who took them back to his family’s
home and set them on the right path the following
day. Hari Bhandari made friends with the couple, Mr
& Mrs Shaw, whom with he still is friends today
and whom as many other friends of Hari, provided help
and finance to set up the Friendship Clinic in Nepal,
in 1997.
Hari Bhandary is now the co-founder
and chairman of the friendship clinic, which
now helps in the reduction of water borne illnesses,
diseases, infant mortality rate, provision of quality
education, and much more.
The village is highly grateful to
Hari Bhandary to whom they show their appreciation,
love and respect.
